Online Ad Terminology
You see many different types of advertising terminology. Among them, banner ads, button ads and pop-up ads. Do you know what they really are or how to use them? Here’s a quick glossary to help you better understand common advertising terms.
Banner Ads
A web graphic advertisement that typically measures 468 pixels wide by 60 pixels tall (468x60).
Text Ad
This is an ad that is embedded using text hyperlinks to another location or page.
Button Ad
A web graphic advertisement that is smaller than a banner ad.
Pop up Ad
An ad that pops up and displays in a separate browser window.
Rectangle Ad
Any large, rectangular banner size suggested by the Internet Architecture Board.
HTML Banner
A banner ad that uses HTML elements, often including interactive or animated forms, in addition to or in place of standard graphical elements.
Vertical Banner
A banner ad that measures 120 pixels wide by 240 pixels tall.
Skyscraper Ad
An online ad exceeding the height dimension (240 pixels) of a vertical banner ad.
Interstitial Ad
An advertisement that occurs (loads) between two content pages.
